Travel and Landscapes

Claire’s epilepsy and autism have impacted her life, often leaving her frustrated but always determined to overcome the challenges she faces. Claire, 24, loves to travel, particularly by train, and has found photography has given her a way to channel her passion. She connects strongly with certain places, placing her hand in the landscape to give ‘a wee shard of her heart’ to the places she loves.
For her Skills section, she’s learning photography. A keen traveller, Claire has always loved to document landmarks and signs on her trips to capture her memories. She says her DofE skills have helped her bond with her dad, also a keen photographer, as they’ve been able to share that passion.
She has took part in the DofE’s Photographers Without Limits project, which aims to raise the voice of young people from marginalised backgrounds by giving them the skills and experience to tell their own stories through pictures. She hopes that the course will teach her new techniques that help her capture the places that matter to her. The course has taught her new techniques to help her capture the places that matter to her. The photo course has, she says, been her favourite part of DofE, but the awards as a whole have taught her to become more organised and, best of all, given her a greater sense of independence. Claire has gone on to study photography further.
